The Copenhagen Metro network in Denmark, whose first line opened in 2002, now consists of four fully automated lines spanning 43 km and serving 44 stations. Should our bid be successful, RATP Dev will establish a dedicated team to manage the transition of current operations and maintenance activities and deliver a 12-year operating contract. This is a full-time position based in Copenhagen, with an expected start date in S2 2026.

JOB OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Operations Director is responsible for the overall operational performance of the transport network, ensuring compliance with safety, engineering and maintenance standards, delivering high-quality service, and meeting all contractual obligations and requirements to the Public Transport Authority.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership
  • Develop and implement strategic plans, goals, and objectives for the operations department, ensuring alignment with organisational mission and vision.
  • Provide visionary leadership and direction to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability within the operations team.
  • Establish performance metrics, benchmarks, and KPIs to monitor departmental performance and ensure alignment with organisational targets.


Team Management
  • Lead and manage the operations team of the four lines, overseeing daily service delivery, supervising control center operations, and coordinating with operations managers (CCR, stewards and metro guide managers) to ensure staffing, operational readiness and achievement of KPIs.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment that encourages professional growth and professional development.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to optimize team performance and drive results.


Operations
  • Implement the transport offer and ensure the management of operating activities (schedules, duties, shifts, regulation, management of any incident and/or event on the lines, etc.) while ensuring the optimisation of the human resources and materials.
  • When appropriate, organise and prepare the commercial commissioning of new lines or extensions: definition of the main operating principles, implementation of operating plans, supervision of functional tests and trials run.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement technical solutions that enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.


Safety, Risk Management and Compliance
  • Develop and implement documentation, including policies, plans, manuals, and procedures for operations.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and safety standards to maintain high-quality operations and mitigate risks.
  • Work closely with QHSE department, leading investigations and reporting of incidents and near-misses and conducting regular audits and drills alongside safety teams.
  • Contribute to develop safety culture across the company.


Budget and Performance
  • Develop annual budgets, financial forecasts, and resource allocation plans for the operations department.
  • Monitor cost-effectiveness of service delivery, analyse performance indicators for operations. Decide, when appropriate, the necessary adjustments and regulatory measures and/or improvement plans, ensuring the follow-up of the actions carried out.


Stakeholder management and cross-departmental collaboration
  • Facilitate communication and close collaboration across departments and stakeholders to align operational activities with organisational goals and priorities.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external partners to drive synergy, maximise operational effectiveness, implement and improve HSQE initiatives.
  • Serve as a key liaison between operations and other functional areas, ensuring clear communication and coordination of efforts.


EXPERIENCE
  • Master's degree in transportation management, business administration, engineering, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • 15 years' experience in public transport operation, preferably in a GoA4 environment, including 10 years in an executive position.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking, analytical problem-solving skills, and the ability to prioritise competing demands in a dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement in engineering and maintenance operations
  • Ability to thrive in multicultural and high-performance environments.
