Missions
Aperam, a global player in stainless steel, is looking for a Laser Application Researcher to drive the development of new applications for laser technologies in the steel industry.
The Laser Application Engineer will be accountable to manage R&D projects and to technically support industrialization and business development. The Laser Application Engineer will report to the Head of R&D laser program.
Among the missions of the chosen candidate there will be the development of innovative steel surfaces, identification and proof-of-concept of opportunities to breakthrough steel production processes, as well as to build-up a network with universities, laser producers and integrators that can bring value to Aperam.

Missions

Responsibilities
The main missions of the Laser Application Engineer includes:
- Identification of business needs that can be addressed and optimized by Laser technologies
- Management and execution of R&D projects in a transversal environment including:
- Project deliverables and time-schedule
- Determination and/or validation of technical specifications and results
- Resources management (internal and outsourced)
- Enhance internally the technical knowledge in the frame of laser and photonics.
- Develop new laser-based surfaces and organize their internal validation with R&D team and external validation with potential customers.
- Define and optimize process parameters aiming for the profitability of the solution.
- Define or support the technical specifications of the investment plan expected in the frame of the program strategy.
Profile
- Master or Doctor in Laser Application or Materials Science (surface).
- 3 years of experience or more in the Laser industry or research.
- Knowledge of materials science, preferably in metallurgy, desirable
- Strong Safety (behavioral and technical) mindset
- Manage small projects with excellent team spirit and accountability
- Solution oriented with strong innovation, analytical and diagnostic skills
- Excellent communication skills to address technical messages to non-technical stakeholders.
- Motivation and capability to work in a cross-cultural, transversal and agile organisation.
- Fluent in English, French (German and Dutch desirable)
