Votre mission
The Science Officer is the head of their department and reports to the Master.
The Science Officer must always comply with orders and instructions received from the Captain and the Company in a professional and competent manner. This may include duties not referred to in the following card.

Responsibilities and Activities
• Is responsible for maintaining the scientific equipment available on board: ensuring it Is in good working order, preparing the equipment between use/cruises and according to the needs of each team, resetting it when needed
• Oversees the reception and installation of equipment brought by researchers, in coordination with the scientists, the crew, and the science manager at headquarters.
• Conducts trials, tests, and calibrations, and follows up on modification or improvement cycles.
• Acts as the interface between scientists and the crew. For example, coordinating with the Master on itineraries, ship speed, and navigation constraints; with the Expedition Leader on disembarkations and access to certain tools (e.g., skidoo, zodiac); and with the Chief Engineer on material needs and technical support for maintenance and repairs.
• Performs, when necessary, manipulations on behalf of the scientists, in collaboration with the scientific mediator, to facilitate knowledge-sharing with passengers.
• Assists with sample collection and data acquisition.
• Communicates with other science coordinators and the science manager at headquarters to prepare for future cruises.
• He/She shall fulfil any additional task given to him by the Master.
Safety, Security & Environmental management
• Follows SEMS procedures and is familiar with the Company's policies regarding safety, security, and the environment.
• Reports to the Master any events or non-compliances that may affect the ship's operations, quality, safety, security, or environmental performance.
• Deeply involved in the protection of the marine environment.
• Is aware of his/her duties as described in the General Emergency Plan.
• Participates in drills, exercises, and training sessions.
• Records working hours in Adonis.
• Prepares a handover for his/her substitute, explaining the status of each apparatus in their department. This handover should be signed by the Master.
• Applies the ALL-SSE-P02 Risk Assessment Procedure in all relevant areas (crew training, risk assessments, displays, review of the Risk Assessment Manual, etc.).
• Ensures a proper risk assessment culture and provides training for researchers and scientists.
• Promotes the improvement of the safety culture on board and ensures the proper use of work permits.

Qualifications
STCW :
• Basic Safety Training certificate - R VI/1
• Security awareness training certificate - R VI/6-1&2
• Safety training for personnel providing direct service to passengers - R V/2-6
• Passenger ship crowd management training - R V/2-7
• LNG & polar code familiarization (Polar Code 12.3.4 & STCW R V/3-3) (CHARCOT)
Other :
• Cybersecurity Awareness (OMI MSC.Circ. 428)
• Sexual assault, harassment and bullying prevention (MLC - B4.3)
• Anti-corruption and bribery (LOI SAPIN II, art 17)
• Certified Zodiac pilot training course

Skills
• Training in engineering sciences and techniques with a specialization in measurement and sensors, or in one of the natural science fields related to the polar environment (biology, geology, oceanography, climatology, glaciology).
• Maritime experience.
• In-depth knowledge of electronics, mechanics and optics desired.
• Ability to interface instruments with different software (Matlab, LabVIEW, etc.), Knowledge of wired or wireless communication buses and standards.
• Ability to apply and enforce safety rules.
• Ability to communicate with researchers and crew
