World Bank Group Publications are a highly visible key component of the World Bank Group brand, disseminating digital and print publications to a global audience of policymakers, practitioners, private sector actors, think tanks, academia, NGOs, the media, and the general public interested in global development.
The publishing program is looking for a social media specialist who can:
• Provide relevant, useful, and concise information on World Bank Group Publications and related knowledge products for its dedicated social media channels
• Build and engage a web community around World Bank Group Publications, through organic and paid marketing strategies
The Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) Vice Presidential Unit enables the World Bank Group to achieve its mission of ending extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity on a livable planet by delivering transformative information and technologies to external audiences around the world and its staff working in over 150+ locations.
Duties and accountabilities:
The social media specialist will support the World Bank Group Publications team in the design and implementation of effective communications, outreach and marketing activities through social media channels. The consultant will report to the Acquisitions team in ITSDA (WBG Data, Information & AI Products & Services) and work closely with other members in the cross-VPU marketing/communications team.
• Write, edit, and design content for World Bank Publications social media channels. Feature key publications and other related content that will be of interest to external audiences, working with Acquisitions team to establish priorities, and liaising with other publishing colleagues and Communications and External Relations (CER) as needed.
• Manage, execute, and analyze paid marketing campaigns for the publishing program and authoring teams
• Work with authoring teams and CER to produce or adapt multimedia content (data visualizations, infographics, video clips, social media postcards, or other assets) to optimize engagement.
• Monitor social media channels to minimize any reputational risks or find new opportunities to increase engagement.
• Engage with WBG's online communications network to align with corporate communications priorities and share content as appropriate.
• Schedule and distribute content on Hootsuite (content curation tool) and WBG's Web Editors list to WBG communications leads
• Track and report social media analytics, including paid campaign results.
Selection Criteria
• Minimum 5 years hands-on experience copywriting and developing content for corporate, government, or non-profit social media channels.
• Minimum 3 years experience conducting paid social media marketing.
• Knowledge of latest trends and best practices in paid social media marketing, including audience targeting, conversion objectives, and ROI maximization.
• Established knowledge of the required, tools for effective management and monitoring of social media channels, including Hootsuite platform. Familiarity with Altmetric, TalkWalker, and Trello a plus.
• Possess strong sense of visual design principles, experience using graphics software such as Photoshop and Canva preferred.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and interpersonal skills, ability to interact with people at various professional levels and diverse backgrounds.
• Familiarity with World Bank Group social media engagement and branding guidelines preferred.
