The British Embassy in France is looking for three talented and motivated interns to join our team in Paris. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to real-world policy, communications and international engagement while developing valuable professional skills and building a network across the UK Government.

The Roles
Economics and Political Section (EPS)

Help shape understanding of one of the UK's most important international partnerships.

France is one of the UK's closest allies and partners. The Economics and Political Section works with French government institutions, academia, businesses and civil society organisations to strengthen collaboration on a wide range of shared priorities.

You will join a dynamic section working across:
  • Bilateral and Political Affairs
  • Economic, Social and Sustainability Policy
  • European Affairs
  • Science and Technology

The successful applicant will work in the European Affairs team at an exciting time as the UK seeks to strengthen its relations with France, the EU and wider European partners.

What you could be doing:
  • Monitoring and analysing political, EU and economic developments
  • Conducting research on priority policy issues
  • Drafting briefings, reports and policy updates
  • Supporting strategic engagement with French stakeholders
  • Assisting with major Embassy events, ministerial visits and diplomatic engagements
  • Contributing administrative and project support across the section

This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy research, analysing current affairs and understanding how policy decisions shape international relationships.

National Security and Foreign Policy Section (NSFP)
Work on some of today's most important international challenges.

Foreign and security policy is a cornerstone of the UK-France partnership. Our National Security and Foreign Policy Section works closely with French institutions and international partners across a broad range of global priorities.

The section covers:
  • Foreign and Development Policy
  • Migration and Borders
  • National Security

You will support work that helps UK decision-makers understand the French perspective on key foreign policy, migration and security issues.

What you could be doing:
  • Researching and analysing French policy developments
  • Preparing reports and briefings for colleagues in London
  • Contributing to strategic stakeholder engagement
  • Supporting relationships with think tanks and policy experts
  • Assisting with Embassy events and high-level meetings
  • Working with colleagues across the FCDO, Ministry of Defence, Cabinet Office and the wider UK Government network

This role is ideal for candidates who are interested in international relations, global affairs, security issues and public policy.

Communications and Engagement Team
Tell the story of the UK-France partnership and help deliver impactful public diplomacy.

The Communications and Engagement Team sits at the centre of the UK Government's work across France. Working closely with colleagues in Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux and Marseille, the team helps ensure that UK priorities are communicated effectively to a wide range of audiences.

The team includes:
  • Media - managing press relations, media engagement and social media
  • Visits - coordinating high-profile ministerial and VIP visits
  • Public Diplomacy - delivering outreach programmes, cultural engagement and flagship events

The successful intern will primarily support the delivery of the Europe Regional Programme Fund, helping to coordinate projects that advance UK priorities and strengthen UK-France ties.

What you could be doing:
  • Supporting programme and project management activities
  • Monitoring project delivery, outcomes and financial compliance
  • Maintaining records and programme documentation
  • Supporting governance meetings and secretariat functions
  • Working with external partners, media organisations and stakeholders
  • Assisting with flagship public diplomacy events across France
  • Supporting media monitoring, analysis and reporting
  • Contributing to social media and communications activities
  • Providing support for high-level visits and major diplomatic engagements

This role would particularly suit someone who enjoys communications, relationship management, project coordination and event delivery.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

Our ideal candidate shows:
  • Excellent French and English language skills (both written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*);
  • An internship agreement "Convention de stage";
  • An interest in one or all of the following areas: Europe / EU, migration, communications, and working to support the UK-France bilateral relationship;
  • Keen to work within an international setting, have an interest in politics and be a good team player;
  • Drive and enthusiasm, combined with the ability to deliver;
  • Resourcefulness and strong research skills with the ability to act on your own initiative to find creative solutions to problems;
  • Excellent communication skills to work with contacts and a wide and diverse team;
  • Highly organised with an excellent eye for detail;
  • Happy to engage in a wide range of tasks and be flexible to support on wider embassy priorities as they arise
  • Confident user of Microsoft Office.

Other benefits and conditions of employment

This is a full time internship. The internship is based on a 35/h week. The monthly salary is 1000€ (gross). In addition, staff receive meal contribution.

All appointments are subject to professional background check satisfactory security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to provide a copy of his/her passport or national identity card for all nationalities held, an up-to-date criminal record (casier judiciaire) for recent countries of residence (which can be obtained online at , two written proofs of address (utility invoices and/or bank statements) and two references.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Paris are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local French employment law and FCO guidance for Local Staff. The posts we offer are not an entry point into the UK's Diplomatic Service.

Working Pattern: The position is based on a 35-hour working week.

This is a full-time position. Our team works flexibly, including some time working remotely. However, in line with current policy, the job holder will be expected to be in the office at least 60% of the week - and more often when required.
